Hayley Sharrod Cole is a Consultant Clinical Scientist within Black Country Pathology Services, providing specialist leadership in laboratory medicine across a large integrated pathology network. She trained as a Clinical Scientist in Southampton, progressing through various roles in the NHS and industry, including newborn screening and metabolic medicine, before focusing on specialist clinical biochemistry, where she now leads on optimizing diagnostic pathways and service delivery.
She has a particular interest in evidence based laboratory medicine, working to align test utilization with clinical need, guideline based care, and cost effectiveness.
Hayley is also actively engaged in health economics and public health, exploring how pathology services can add value across the wider healthcare system. She champions the use of robust evidence, service evaluation methods, and quality improvement frameworks to ensure that services not only meet technical standards but also contribute meaningfully to patient outcomes and efficient resource use, with a focus on delivering value based care within the NHS.
