AACC Supports S.3534, the Tracking Pathogens Act

On February 4th, AACC joined other healthcare stakeholders in urging the Senate Health, Education, Labor, Pensions (HELP) Committee to support S. 3534, Tracking Pathogens Act, which was introduced by Senators Baldwin (D-WI) and Cassidy (R-LA). The legislation, which is included in the HELP committee’s draft PREVENT Pandemics Act legislation, would bolster the nation’s ability to combat future pandemics by providing resources and incentives to improve public health surveillance and preparedness. It would also direct federal health agencies to expand and improve activities related to genomic sequencing and provide funding to state and local public health agencies to promote innovation in pathogen genomics and molecular epidemiology. AACC supports greater congressional investment in programs and agencies that support labs, healthcare providers, and the nation’s public health workforce.
