On April 3, 2026, ADLM sent a letter endorsing H.R. 7352, the Pioneering Antimicrobial Subscriptions to End Upsurging Resistance Act of 2026 (PASTEUR Act), which would create new federal incentives to support the development of urgently needed antibiotics and strengthen efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance. In its letter, ADLM emphasized that clinical laboratories are essential to this work, both in supporting the development of antimicrobial susceptibility testing and in generating the data needed to guide treatment decisions, stewardship efforts, and national surveillance. The legislation would also support antimicrobial stewardship programs, including in rural and critical-access hospitals that rely on laboratory expertise. ADLM will continue to advocate for policies that strengthen laboratory medicine’s role in addressing major public health threats.
