ADLM continues to elevate laboratory medicine in AI policy discussions

ADLM continues to engage federal policymakers on the role of laboratory medicine in responsible healthcare artificial intelligence. The association has submitted comments to FDA and HHS emphasizing that AI policy must address not only algorithms, but also the quality, comparability, and clinical meaning of the laboratory data these systems rely on. ADLM has highlighted the importance of validation, verification, continuous performance monitoring, bias mitigation, interoperability, and laboratory professional expertise in AI governance. In addition, ADLM is convening laboratory medicine experts through an ongoing working group developing a policy report on artificial intelligence in laboratory medicine. This work reflects ADLM’s commitment to ensuring that laboratories have a strong voice as federal AI policy continues to evolve.
