ADLM submits comments to OMB on grantmaking proposed rule

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has issued a proposed rule that would revise governmentwide federal grantmaking requirements, including rules that apply to research funding. The proposal includes provisions related to senior appointee review of discretionary awards, consideration of presidential policy priorities, the advisory role of peer review, and limits on publication costs under federal awards. ADLM reviewed the proposal and formally submitted comments warning of its potential implications for clinical laboratory research, scientific publication, peer review, and the broader research enterprise. ADLM will continue to closely monitoring federal research policy to ensure that policies affecting grants and scientific dissemination support innovation, evidence-based review, and the advancement of laboratory medicine.
