The Outstanding Contributions Through Service to the Profession of Clinical Chemistry Award honors individuals who have devoted their careers to advancing the professional status of clinical chemists and furthering the mission and objectives of the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine.
Recipients of this award are distinguished by their sustained, career‑long commitment to service, leadership, and advocacy on behalf of the profession and the Association. Through their efforts, honorees have helped elevate the visibility, impact, and recognition of clinical chemistry; strengthened professional standards and engagement; and supported ADLM’s efforts to advance laboratory medicine at the local, national, and/or international levels.

Barbara Goldsmith, PhD, FADLM
Dr. Barbara Goldsmith serves as director of clinical laboratories and clinical professor, director of point-of-care testing and quality management in the department of pathology and genomics, Sidney Kimmel Medical College and professor and chair of the department of medical laboratory sciences and biotechnology, college of health professions at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. She has served as the scientific/technical director of clinical chemistry and director of clinical laboratories in multiple hospital and academic settings.
Dr. Goldsmith is the past president of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (now ADLM) and the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (now the Academy of Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine). She has served on the AACC Board of Directors, Annual Meeting Organizing Committees, and numerous other committees.
Dr. Goldsmith has been involved in ADLM’s global initiatives serving as Chair of the Latin American Work Group, Chair of the Subcommittee on Global Affairs, and now as Chair of the Global Affairs Core Committee (GACC). GACC serves to grow ADLM’s global initiatives as opportunities for education, collaborations, and membership expand. Her areas of interest include clinical chemistry, point-of-care testing, laboratory management, quality management, and global education.
