It is incontrovertible that smoking negatively affects health and surgical outcomes; however, data on the health effects of NRT and vaping are still scant. This article describes the health implications of vaping and NRT during the perioperative period and in surgical settings and reviews the available biomarkers of smoking, vaping, and NRT.
