The authors present the case of a patient preliminarily diagnosed with Acute Inflammatory Demyelinating Peripheral Neuropathy, a clinical form of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). Expanded toxicology testing revealed extremely elevated blood thallium concentrations. The article discusses the clinical presentation, diagnosis, testing methodologies, and treatment and outcomes of thallium poisoning.
Bupropion is an antidepressant drug and an N-tert-butyl analog of cathinone. Bupropion is typically well tolerated at therapeutic doses, but higher doses associated with bupropion misuse can be toxic. This article discusses a case of bupropion toxicity and implications for clinical and forensic toxicologists and other laboratory scientists.
