Cristina Agulló is a clinical laboratory specialist in the protein area of the analysis and clinical biochemistry department in Salamanca’s University Hospital, where also she is carrying on her PhD about the identification of monoclonal proteins by mass spectrometry with the methodology QIP-MS (quantitative immunoprecipitation mass spectrometry) in patients with multiple myeloma and other monoclonal gammopathies.
As a start, she performed a stay of two months in the protein immunology and proteomics department in Mayo Clinic Laboratories, in Rochester (Minnesota, EEUU), a pioneer group in the development of this methodology where she learnt how to use it to analyze the monoclonal proteins specifically by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS), as an observer trainee. She is also member of the Protein Commission of the Spanish Society for Laboratory Medicine (SEQC).
