Rafael Zubirán, MD, is a postdoctoral fellow at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NIH). His research focuses on developing cell-free assays to measure HDL function and identify biomarkers for early cardiovascular risk. He completed a residency in internal medicine and endocrinology at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición “Salvador Zubirán” in Mexico City. His work improves and validates equations for estimating LDL-C and LDL-TG and supports emerging lipoprotein metrics such as sdLDL-C. Zubirán received the NHLBI Director’s Award for Innovation and the Young Investigator Award from the National Lipid Association.
