Description
This webinar will focus on the recently published study that evaluates the negative impacts of long-term storage of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue on next-generation sequencing (NGS) by describing how the duration of storage affects NGS quality control metrics, variant detection and tumor mutation burden scores. This webinar will also address how treatment of the DNA isolated from stored FFPE with a DNA repair enzyme might reduce storage-related artifacts and improve the accuracy of variant detection.

Target audience
This activity is designed for Physicians, Lab supervisors, Lab directors (and/or assistant directors), Lab managers (supervisory and/or non-supervisory), Medical technologists, Point-of-Care coordinators, Pathologists, Toxicologists, Fellows, Residents, In-training individuals, and other laboratory professionals overseeing/conducting within this topic.
Learning objectives
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe pre-analytical factors that could negatively affect next-generation sequencing.
- Recognize DNA and sequencing quality metrics that reflect effects of long-term FFPE storage.
- Compare characteristics of artifactual variants found in stored FFPE and bona fide tissue-associated variants.
