Description

Effective management of bleeding and coagulopathy requires timely and comprehensive assessment of hemostasis. Traditional coagulation tests provide limited information about the dynamic process of clot formation and platelet contribution to clot strength. Viscoelastic testing offers a whole-blood evaluation of clot development, while platelet function assays provide additional insight into platelet-mediated clot stability.

This webinar will:

  • Provide an overview of viscoelastic testing principles
  • Explore how platelet function testing can complement these technologies for a more complete assessment of hemostasis
  • Discuss the role of laboratory testing in supporting clinical decision-making
  • Highlight ways to improve collaboration between laboratory and clinical teams
  • Offer practical insights on integrating testing approaches to support comprehensive hemostasis assessment

Target audience

This activity is designed for physicians, lab supervisors, lab directors (and/or assistant directors), lab managers (supervisory and/or non-supervisory), medical technologists, point-of-care coordinators, and pathologists.

Learning objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the principles of viscoelastic testing and its role in evaluating clot formation and stability.
  • Explain how platelet function contributes to clot strength and how platelet function testing complements viscoelastic testing.
  • Discuss the role of the clinical laboratory in supporting multidisciplinary hemostasis management using advanced coagulation testing.
