Food and Drug Administration Oversight of Laboratory-Developed Tests: The Ongoing Saga (page 1)

The Verifying Accurate Leading-edge IVCT Development (VALID) Act was stripped from the 2022 year-end omnibus spending bill at the last moment, and as of early 2023, the bill’s fate is an open question. FDA regulation of laboratory-developed tests (LDTs)/in vitro clinical tests (IVCTs) would be a significant change for the clinical laboratory industry. Current regulation and the history of FDA oversight of LDTs are discussed.
