Ievgen Motorykin, Ph.D., is an accomplished scientist with expertise in liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC-MS), specializing in the identification and quantitation of both small and large molecules. With over 9 years of experience, including leading LC-MS operations at a large-scale regulated clinical laboratory, he has a strong background in quantitative proteomics, analytical chemistry, and method development. Dr. Motorykin has published numerous research articles and a book chapter, acquired patents, and presented at scientific conferences, for which he won several awards.
He holds a Ph.D. from Oregon State University and MS from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, both in analytical chemistry. Dr. Motorykin is an active member of several scientific communities, including American Society for Mass-spectrometry (ASMS), Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM), and Mass-spectrometry & Advances in the Clinical Lab (MSACL), in which he routinely presents scientific discoveries.
Michael J. McPhaul, MD

Dr. McPhaul joined Quest Diagnostics Nichols Institute as Endocrinology Medical Director in June 2012. Prior to his recruitment to Quest, Dr. McPhaul was Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism and Associate Dean at UT Southwestern Medical Center. During his 25 year tenure at Southwestern, his investigative career was clinical and translational in nature, leading to an international reputation in the fields of androgen action, diseases of the pituitary, and clinical research. He has published extensively, including more than 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 23 review articles and book chapters.
Since joining Quest as Medical Director for Endocrinology and Metabolism, Dr. McPhaul has focused primarily on the development of tools to assist in the comprehensive care of patients with prediabetes, the metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, and the development of new diagnostic tests to permit the early identification of patients with diabetic complications. In his position as Endocrinology and Metabolism Medical Director, Dr. McPhaul has continued to develop and enhance offerings to permit the accurate measurement of peptide and steroid hormone levels. His most recent work has focused on the development of tests to quantitate the future risk of diabetes and to accurately assess the level of insulin resistance in individual patients. In 2023, Dr. McPhaul founded Metabolic Endocrine and Medical Care and Consulting. He serves as a consultant to Quest Diagnostics.
Dr. McPhaul is an active member of a number of professional organizations, including AACE, the Endocrine Society, the American Diabetes Association, the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation, and the American Federation for Medical Research (AFMR). He serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Investigative Medicine High Impact Case Reports.
Nigel J. Clarke PhD

Dr. Clarke received his Ph.D. in Mass Spectrometry and Analytical Chemistry from the University of Kent, England, and completed postdoctoral fellowship training in Biomedical Mass Spectrometry at the Mayo Clinic. He was Principal Investigator at the Schering-Plough Research Institute in Kenilworth NJ, running the drug discovery metabolite identification group and worked at ActivX Biosciences as Director of Mass Spectrometry before joining Quest Diagnostics.
Dr. Clarke is Chief Scientific Officer and Vice President for R&D – Clinical Solutions and Technology overseeing R&D groups developing LC-MS/MS, Infectious Disease and Immunology assays utilized across Quest Diagnostics. His staff trains visiting scientists from other Quest Diagnostics labs in adopting new technology and assays from his laboratory. He oversees the running of LCMS assays across multiple operations laboratories within the Quest network.
He has published extensively in top tier journals and textbooks and is an internationally recognized speaker.
Dr. Zeng R. Wu, Ph.D., DABCC, C(ASCP), CC

A renowned expert in mass spectrometry and clinical chemistry, Dr. Wu Z has a strong background in research and development, with expertise in protein biology, hormone regulation, and cancer research. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Peking University and an MBA from Capella University.
Throughout her career, Dr. Wu has held various leadership positions, including Scientific Director of Mass Spectrometry at Nichols Institute, where she led the team to outstanding performance characteristics. Her expertise spans assay development, validation, and implementation, as well as technical support for customer service and clinical trial issues.
Dr. Wu is a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (DABCC) and holds certifications from the ASCP and California Department of Public Health. She has been recognized for her contributions through awards and honors, including recognition for her work in reducing test not performed rates and implementing cost-saving initiatives.
A testament to her leadership abilities, Dr. Wu has completed the McKinsey CLA Management Accelerator program, a prestigious professional development initiative that empowers leaders to drive strategic growth and transformation.
Dr. Wu has also served as Postdoctoral Researcher at Ohio State University and as a Graduate Research Associate at Peking University and China Agricultural University.
