Judging criteria
Judges will use the following areas (total of 100 points) to score submissions that fall into one or more of the Award pillars (noted below):
- Innovation and overall impact in lab medicine: Submission(s) demonstrated improved and sustainable outcomes. Examples of outcome-based measures include but are not limited to increased inclusion of underrepresented groups, the development and implementation of effective DEIHE inclusion programs, facilitating opportunities to close gaps of access, the introduction of innovative policies and practices that can be scaled, or highlighting of innovative, forward-thinking approaches such as new training programs, community outreach efforts, or collaborative research initiatives that can serve as replicable models across the laboratory medicine community. 50 points
- Cross-Functional impact: Cross-functional impact refers to the effects that extend across different functional areas, requiring collaboration and coordination between multiple departments or area of focus to address complex organizational challenges that require diverse perspectives and shared knowledge to solve effectively. The impact spans multiple departments such as laboratory, pharmacy, and clinical services or areas of focus such as hospital, government, and advocacy groups. 20 points
- DEI Lens: Submission(s) considers guidance offered through the DEI Lens. 20 points
- Aligns with ADLM’s strategic plan: Submission(s) represents the guiding principles of ADLM’s strategic plan (mission, organizational values and goals). 10 points
Award pillars
Organizational teams or individual nominees for the ADLM Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Health Equity (DEIHE) Award will be assessed based on demonstrating one or more of the following:

Promotion of diversity: The candidate should have implemented effective strategies to promote diversity within the field of laboratory medicine, such as the creation and development of an inclusive culture (e.g. include but not limited to by actively increasing representation of and creating opportunities for underrepresented groups).
- Commitment to equity: The candidate should have demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting equity in laboratory medicine, by advocating for fair and unbiased treatment of all individuals, addressing disparities in access to resources and opportunities, and ensuring equitable representation and participation.
- Contribution to inclusion: The candidate should have made notable contributions towards creating an inclusive environment within the field of laboratory medicine, by actively engaging diverse stakeholders, fostering collaboration, and networking opportunities, and ensuring the voices and perspectives of all individuals are heard and valued.

Education and Training: The candidate should have recognized efforts by designing and implementing education and training programs that raise awareness, develop skills, and promote DEIHE principles within the laboratory medicine community.
- Innovation: The candidate should have demonstrated innovative approaches to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion in laboratory medicine.
- Sustainability and scalability: The candidate should have demonstrated a commitment to sustaining and scaling their efforts, ensuring that diversity, equity, and inclusion become an integral part of the whole laboratory medicine community and are embedded in long-term strategies and practices.
- Leadership and influence: The candidate should have demonstrated leadership and influence in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the laboratory medicine community. This could include holding leadership positions in relevant organizations, actively advocating for diversity and inclusion at conferences and meetings, practicing allyship for underrepresented groups, or influencing policy and practice through research, publications, or other means.
- Collaboration and partnership: The candidate should have a proven track record of collaborating with other stakeholders, such as academic institutions, industry leaders, patient advocacy groups, and policymakers, to collectively advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within laboratory medicine.
